She rose to recognition for her starring role as Alexis Rose in the sitcom Schitt's Creek (2015–2020), for which she garnered acclaim and won a Primetime Emmy Award and a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. Murphy has since starred in the dark comedy series Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021–2022), the second season of the comedy-drama series Russian Doll (2022), and the episode "Joan Is Awful" of the anthology series Black Mirror (2023). Murphy made her major breakthrough on "Schitt's Creek," where she starred alongside Eugene Levy, Daniel Levy, Catherine O'Hara, and Chris Elliott as Alexis Rose, the daughter of Levy and O'Hara. Annie Murphy was a Canadian actress who was best known for playing the character Alexis Rose on the CBC sitcom "Schitt's Creek" (2015- ). Born and raised in Ottawa, Murphy's desire to act was evident from a very young age. She would often find herself performing in front of friends and family, whether it was singing, dancing, or even just joking around, thus sparking what would soon become a lifelong love of entertaining. By her late teens and early 20s, Murphy decided to pursue her passion for acting more seriously. She soon began auditioning for film and TV roles in Canada, and before long was landing small parts on TV shows. Her very first screen role came in 2007 when she nabbed a part on the Canadian made-for-TV-movie "No Brother of Mine." Murphy continued auditioning for film and TV roles throughout the late 2000s, and quickly managed to puff up her acting resume with parts in the films "Story of Jen" (2008) and "Lick" (2010).
