Marc Nelson (born January 23, 1971)[2] is an American singer and songwriter.

He was an original member of Boyz II Men while still attending the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. However, a management agreement forced Nelson to leave the group to pursue a solo career before the group released their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony.

Biography[]

Nelson's mother was the late R&B/dance singer, Phyllis Nelson. In the late 1980s,, he attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative & Performing Arts where he met Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCrary, all five of them would become future members of Boyz II Men. By the tail end of the decade, they met New Edition's Michael Bivins, who hooked them up with signing a deal with a major label and the quintet began recording their material. But there was a delay with recording the debut album and losing his patience, Nelson decided to leave and go solo instead. He ended up signing a solo deal with Capitol Records and Orpheus Productions. In 1991, his debut album, I Want You, was released.
