MUSKEGON, MI – Former White House national security advisor Jofi Joseph – fired from his job for anonymous posts to Twitter.com – was raised in Muskegon.
The Daily Beast broke the story Tuesday, Oct. 22 that Joseph was fired for insulting tweets he posted to an anonymous twitter account, @natsecwonk.
Joseph is the 1990 valedictorian of Muskegon Catholic Central High School, according to MLive Muskegon Chronicle archives. At Muskegon Catholic Central, he won an array of academic honors. As a 17-year-old high school senior, he won a National Citizen Bee and a $7,000 scholarship.
He went on to an illustrious career in academics and public policy, and was a Truman Scholar at Princeton University.
Among his academic accolades was a trip to Rotary Fellowship at the Universitat Salzburg in Austria. The trip was the topic of a 1993 story in the Chronicle, and was also mentioned in an alumni biography on the Princeton website. The university has since removed the biography but an

Washington DC, Oct 22, 2013 - A senior White House official who was helping negotiate nuclear issues with Iran has been fired after being unmasked as the acidic voice behind a Twitter account known for its insults of public figures at the White House and on Capitol Hill, a government official said on Tuesday.
Jofi Joseph was director of nuclear non-proliferation on the White House National Security Council staff, but for more than two years sent hundreds of anonymous and abrasive tweets using the handle @NatSecWonk.
He was fired last week after he was caught, the official said.
A White House official confirmed Joseph no longer worked there, but would not comment on personnel matters. The firing was first reported by the website Daily Beast.
In his Twitter biography, now removed from the social networking site, Joseph described himself as a "keen observer of the foreign policy and national security scene" who "unapologetically says what everyone else only thinks."

The White House staffer who was fired for posting snarky, critical tweets through an anonymous Twitter account has apologized for what he calls "inappropriate and mean-spirited comments."
In an email to NBC's Ali Weinberg, Jofi Joseph, the former director in the non-proliferation section of the National Security Council apologized for creating the "parody" account.
"I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted," Joseph wrote.
For the last two and a half years, Joseph posted tweets that criticized government policies and his bosses, including President Barack Obama, the Daily Beast reported. Joseph also openly criticized Republican figures.
Joseph added in his apology, "It has been a privilege to serve in this Administration and I deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me."
While the White House has not confirmed the details of the tweets, other sources have, NBC News' Chuck Todd confirmed.
