Career Summary

Jim E. Mora (Sr.) was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1978 to 2001, finishing his career as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Over his twenty years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 159-153-0. During his career he was a head coach for fifteen seasons, first with the New Orleans Saints. He led the Saints for eleven seasons, compiling a record of 94-81-0. He resigned from the Saints on Monday, October 21, 1996. At the time of his resignation, Mora was the longest tenured coach in major North American sports. He resigned in a profanity laden in a press conference halfway through the season. On December 10, 2011, former Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora was named UCLA's 17th head coach in school history. In his first five seasons at the helm, Coach Mora has led the Bruins to a pair of school-record tying 10-win seasons, four bowl games, a Pac-12 South Division Championship and an overall record of 41-24. His Bruin teams have produced four of the top five best total offense season outputs in school history, as well as, the school single-season mark. Twenty-five Bruin players have heard their named called at the last five NFL Drafts, including a first round choice in four of the five drafts.

This past season, the Bruins ranked among the nation's top 25 programs in numerous offensive and defensive categories and produced three first-team All-Pac-12 and five selections in the draft. On defense, the team pass defense efficiency rating was the seventh-best in the nation (105.8) and the total of 12 opponent touchdown passes was the fewest allowed by a conference school. James Ernest Mora (born May 24, 1935) is the former head coach of the USFL's Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars and the NFL's New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. He played football at Occidental College where he was also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. His son Jim L. Mora is the current head coach of the UCLA Bruins.
