Tarek Mitri

Tarek Mitri (ur. 16 września1950 r. w Trypolisie) – prawosławny polityk libański i wykładowca uniwersytecki.

Tarek Mitri ukończył filozofię na Uniwersytecie Amerykańskim w Bejrucie, a następnie zdobył doktorat z nauk politycznych na Uniwersytecie Paryskim. Jako naukowiec zajmuje się zawodowo problematyką relacji chrześcijańsko-islamskich oraz ich aspektów kulturowych, historycznych i społecznych.

W 2005 r. kierował libańskim ministerstwem ds. reformy administracji oraz resortem środowiska. W latach 2005–2008 był ministrem kultury, a następnie stał na czele ministerstwa informacji (2008–2011).

Biography

Dr Tarek Mitri is the Director of the Fares Institute on Public policy and international Affairs at the American University of Beirut.

He was the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Libya, October 2012- September 2014.

From 2005 to 2011, he served in four successive Lebanese governments as Minister of Environment, Administrative Reform, Culture, Information and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Previously, he worked, in various capacities, in the area of intercultural and interreligious dialogue. He taught at the Université Saint Joseph, Balamand University, the University of Geneva, Amsterdam Free University, Harvard University and the American University of Beirut.

He chairs the Boards of Nicolas Sursock Museum and the Institute of Palestine Studies. He is a member of the Strategic Council of Saint Joseph University and of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
