Fiammetta thinks it’s cruel to be asked to tell tales of unhappy lovers, especially since the company left Florence to avoid their woes. Nevertheless, she will fulfil Filostrato’s command with the story of Tancredi and his daughter (later identified as Ghismonda). Tancredi loves Ghismonda so much that he takes longer than usual to find her a husband, and when she’s quickly widowed, he doesn’t bother to find her a new husband at all but keeps her home with himself.

Boccaccio.3centuries.8pp.
The time is still that of the plague. The plague is active. Boccaccio is a citizen of Florence & is impressed, scared, touched by what he sees. Here are peoples dying. Many are dying and bring death to others. It is an epidemic. No one cares about the dying. They are all going to die. No doctors, no remedies, no care, all they will die, no matter what. When a population believe they will all die, there is no longer a society. No law, no love. It is the end. The end brings in a new society, for a few. In Genesis, the flood makes a few to build an Arc. Oh God! Group of persons saved themselves. Let us move out of the City & go into Nature. We will no longer think or look at this Plague, we will look at ourselves, have the freedom of the outside, we, a group of ten will be new Adams & Eves, New Noah and life will continue in law and love. We will be back to Florence, we will return to law and society. ∞∞∞∞ The book of the Decameron has by now reached, perhaps 3,000 editions. After the Bible that was printed by Guttenberg in 1496, the Decameron
