Biography

Raised with a hard work ethic, which she has honed with a will of steel, April Holmes has redefined what it means to be disabled. Through faith, dedication, consistency and support, she has rewritten the record books, breaking the IPC World Records in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.

April was involved in a train accident in 2001 that resulted in the loss of her left leg below the knee. While she lay in her hospital bed, a doctor told her about the Paralympic Games and a new goal was firmly implanted in her mind.

Since her career in Paralympic track & field began in 2002, Holmes has continued to succeed, improving each and every step of the way. Her latest feat includes completing her fifth consecutive undefeated season in the 100 meters, which earned her a gold medal at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China. Biography

April Holmes is a Staff Archaeologist and Faculty Research Associate in the UWF Archaeology Institute. She is an active field and research archaeologist with administrative responsibilities. Holmes is a PI and Co-PI on multiple important archaeological projects in Historic Pensacola. Holmes teaches an undergraduate course in archaeological data analysis and mentors students in the field and analysis phase of their research undertakings.

Holmes is a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) and a member of the Florida Archaeological Council (FAC). She serves on the Boards of non-professional organizations including the Florida Anthropological Society and the Pensacola Archaeological Society.

April Holmes (born 11 March 1973) is a Paralympicathlete from the USA competing mainly in category T44 sprint events.

Biography

Holmes grew up in Somerdale, New Jersey.[1] She competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece, where she won a bronze medal in the women's Long jump – F44/46 event, finished sixth in the women's 100 metres – T46 event, with a world T44 record and finished seventh in the women's 200 metres – T46 event. She also competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, winning a gold medal in the women's 100 metres – T44 event, and the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, winning a bronze medal in the women's 100 metres – T44 event.
