Kurt E. Koch (16 November 1913 – 25 January 1987) was a German Protestant theologian and writer from Berghausen, Pfinztal. He was best known for his publications on the occult.

Life

After studying Protestant theology, Koch obtained a doctorate in theology from the University of Tübingen. He then became a pastor at the service of the Protestant Church in Baden. His functions were mainly working with young people and evangelism.

He also began writing books in the year 1949. That same year, Koch founded a mission to distribute the Bible and evangelistic writings around the world for free.^[1] Over the following years, his missionary and evangelistic work led him to more than 100 countries, where he held lectures at universities, seminaries, Bible schools and many churches on every continent.

Biography

Dr. Kurt E. Koch

Kurt E. Koch was born in 1913 in the town of Berghausen near Karlsruhe, Germany. Jesus Christ entered his life at the age of 17 and led him to experience radical change and renewal. This led him to major in theology with minors in medicine and psychology.

After the war he earned a doctorate in theology from the University of Tübingen. For the next 22 years he served the Protestant Church in Baden, focusing on youth work and evangelism. In 1949 he founded the Bible and Literature Mission with the aim of distributing Christian literature and financing the printing of Bibles or parts of the Bible, particularly in the languages of indigenous peoples. It was at this time that his work as a writer began.

After obtaining his doctorate and publishing his first scientific book, the doors of universities, theological seminaries and churches on all continents began to open to him. Missionary work and evangelistic tours took him to over 100 countries.

Kurt Koch (born 15 March 1950) is a Swiss prelate of the Catholic Church. He has been a cardinal since November 2010 and president of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity since 1 July 2010. He was the bishop of Basel from 1996 until 2010.

Personal background

Koch was born in Emmenbrücke in the canton of Lucerne. He studied theology at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and at the University of Lucerne, graduating in 1975 with a Doctor of Theology degree. He was ordained to the priesthood on 20 June 1982.

Basel

Koch was appointed Bishop of Basel on 6 December 1995. He received episcopal consecration on 6 January 1996 from John Paul II himself, with Archbishops Giovanni Battista Re and Jorge María Mejía serving as co-consecrators.^[1]
