Chris Perez band is a Grammy winning trio around John Garza, Joe Ojeda and Chris Pérez. In 1999, Resurrection, the first album recorded by Pérez’s newly created band, won a Grammy award in the category of Alternative Latin Rock. Now, after signing with a new record label, Univision Music, the group is launching its second album, Chris Pérez Band, Una Noche Mas, with more ballads and cumbias, and sung mostly in Spanish. “This is a lot different,” he says. “This is more of a reflection of where we came from and what’s going on in Texas and the type of music that you now hear.” A gifted musician, Chris Pérez grew up in urban San Antonio, learning to read music charts as a horn player in junior high school. “My mom and my dad were also in the school marching band when they were young. I think I take after her; she’s the one who signed me up at my school and she wanted for me to play the French horn, which I found really groovy.” It was later, with his guitar, however, that young Pérez discovered a new and incredible way to communicate his thoughts and emotions.

Christopher Gilbert "Chris" Pérez (born August 14, 1969) is an American guitarist, songwriter and author best known as lead guitarist for the Tejano band Selena y Los Dinos. He married the frontwoman of the group, Selena, on April 2, 1992. Pérez grew up in San Antonio, Texas as one of two children of Gilbert Pérez and Carmen Medina. In 1986, he joined Shelly Lares' band. By the late 1980s, Pérez was reputed among Tejano musicians for his guitar skills. This caught A.B. Quintanilla's attention; at the time, Quintanilla was seeking another guitarist for the band he produced, Selena y Los Dinos. Between one and two years after Pérez joined the band, he and Selena began a personal relationship. Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla, Jr., forced them to end their relationship because he felt Pérez' image might damage Selena's career. They ignored his threats to disband the group, and continued their relationship. Quintanilla Jr. fired Pérez from the band, forbidding Selena to go with him. Chris Pérez (born 14 August 1969 in San Antonio, Texas) is a Grammy-winning guitarist and the widower of "The Queen of Tejano music" Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.[1]
Personal life
[change | change source]In 1988, Pérez met Grammy-winning Mexican AmericansingerSelena. Two years later, Selena's family hired him to play in her band and they quickly fell in love. At first her father did not approve of the relationship and went as far as firing Pérez from the band. However, he eventually came to accept the relationship. On April 2, 1992, Selena and Pérez married in Nueces County, Texas and Selena legally added Pérez's surname to her own.
