BGSU's MVP Phil Villapiano NFL Hall of Fame Bid

After a successful 13-year career as a member of the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills, former BGSU football player Phil "Foo" Villapiano is making a strong case for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. To show our support, BG Memories has collaborated with his family and supporters to create two Bowling Green State University "Foo's HoF Fighters" rally t-shirt with proceeds benefiting BGSU's Falcon Club in Phil's name in addition to a special edition Silver n’ Black rally t-shirt design.

The Falcon Club Scholarship and Success Fund gifts allow BGSU to recruit and retain the best student-athletes as we compete for championships in the MAC and WCHA, and also prepare our Falcons for success upon graduation.

Phil "Foo" Villapiano was All Mid-American Conference first team in 1969 and 1970 and was named Bowling Green's MVP in 1970 when he was also MAC co-defensive player of the year.  Bowling Green inducted Phil into its Hall of Fame i

Philip James Villapiano (born February 26, 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey) is a former American footballlinebacker in the NFL. The 6-2 220-pound Villapiano played in four Pro Bowls and was a member of the Oakland RaidersSuper Bowl XI winning team. Phil was Defensive AFC Rookie of the Year in 1971 and was an NFL Hall of Fame nominee.

Villapiano played college football at Bowling Green State University, and high school football at both Asbury Park High School and Ocean Township High School in Ocean Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey.[1][2]

Phil is married and has three children; Andrea, Phil, and Michael. Michael is a QB at Brown University.

Phil has been in the International Logistics business for over thirty years, starting during offseasons while playing with the Raiders. Currently, Phil provides logistics solutions for domestic and international companies as Vice President of Sales for Odyssey Logistics & Technology, a global logistics leader, based in Danbury, CT.

A Hall of Famer in my world.

Friends used to ask who do you want on a podcast or even to just have a beer with.  The 4 people remain the same.  Ken Stabler, Bill King, John Madden, and Phil Villapiano. Today I’m writing about one of the most popular Raider players of all time, and one of my dad’s favorites in Phil Villapiano.   “Foo” was a Raider from the start.

From Day One:

When Phil Villapiano was drafted, most teams had him going in the 3rd or 4th round. The Raiders drafted him in the 2nd round out of Bowling Green which was a surprise to some. Many teams had Villapiano listed at only 210 pounds, being too small to play linebacker.   Back then there was no NFL combines or official weigh in
