The niaouli tree is native to New Caledonia. Its renowned essential oil is produced from its highly fragrant evergreen leaves.

Its essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the aerial parts. In this process, the volatile components (essential oil) of the leaves are entrained with the steam. The steam then condenses in the essential oil separator, separating the essential oils from the hydrolate (water).

About the plant :

Niaouli is a tree in the Myrtaceae family, native to the east coast of Australia and New Caledonia, and has been planted in many tropical regions for its wood, its flowers for honey and its leaves for essential oil. The specific epithet quinquenervia is made up of two Latin terms: quinque ‘five’ and nervus ‘nerve’, referring to the five veins of the leaves.
