John Koontz is a minor character in the 1990 ITMiniseries. He is played by Bill Croft.

Biography[]

Koontz worked as a security guard at the psych ward of the Juniper Hills State Correctional Facility, in which Henry Bowers had been sent after he was falsely accused of being responsible for all the missing andmurderedkids in Derry, Maine, back in 1960.

Death[]

Henry manages to break out of his cell with the help of Pennywise. As Henry approaches the exit, Koontz steps out to stop him, only to encounter Pennywise, whose head transforms into that of a Doberman Pinscher. Koontz is knocked down and mauled to death offscreen.

American politician

John Koontz (October 19, 1902 – March 21, 1995) was an American politician who served as the Secretary of State of Nevada from 1947 to 1973.[1][2] He was the longest-serving politician to hold this office, winning 7 successive elections.[3] During his tenure, he established state archives and preserved all the valuable records.[2]

Koontz was born on October 19, 1906, in Goldfield, Nevada, to Louis Kossuth and Ada Mae Koontz. He worked as a miner, a cowpuncher, and a grocery store clerk.[4] He entered politics in 1934 when he was elected county recorder of Esmeralda County.[4]

From 1958 to 1959, Koontz served as president of the National Association of Secretaries of State. He worked as a campaign manager for Mary Gojack and Harry Reid.[5]

In 1973, he resigned from the office.[2]

Koontz died on March 21, 1995.[5]

    John Koontz was born May 18, 1932 in Cozy Town, Pennsylvania. He attended a one room schoolhouse with 43 students before finishing his education in 8th grade and pursuing farming. He was drafted into the Army in February 1951 and left for Korea three months later after attending basic training at Camp Breckenridge in Kentucky. He landed at Inchon, later went to Pusan, Seoul, and the 38th Parallel, where he was often engaged in combat.When asked about his experiences in Korea, he emotionally explains about the battles he saw. He also remembers the starving children he saw. John Koontz now believes that Korea was worth fighting for even though he thought the fighting was useless and unnecessary at the time.

    John Koontz describes his time in the Infantry at the 38th Parallel, where many North Koreans were trying to get through. He talks about the need to "fight our way out" which at times took hours, other times took days. He says "I'd rather not talk about it", clearly he is very emotional. and reflects on the horrors of war.
