Converse (brand)
American lifestyle brand owned by Nike, Inc.
Converse () is an American lifestyle brand that markets, distributes, and licenses footwear, apparel, and accessories. Founded by Marquis Mills Converse in 1908 as the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in Malden, Massachusetts, it has been acquired by several companies before becoming a subsidiary of Nike, Inc. in 2003.[3]
Converse initially produced winterized rubber-soled shoes and boots. During World War II, it shifted manufacturing to make footwear for the military.[4] Initially, it was one of the few producers of athletic shoes and dominated the U.S. market, but lost its position in the 1970s as competitors introduced their styles.
Converse's portfolio includes products under the Chuck Taylor All-Stars, Cons, Jack Purcell, One Star, and Star Chevron trademarks. It frequently collaborates on special-edition product releases with other brands such as John Varvatos. The growth of Converse as a casual fashion accessory contributed to $2.4 billion in revenue in 2023.[2]

Converse, story of an icon
Legend would be that it all started with a fall down the stairs. The injured man, a certain Marquis Mills Converse, had the idea of creating the first shoes with rubber soles so that this would never happen again. As a result, in 1908, he founded the Converse Rubber Shoe Company, which at that time only sold stuffed boots with the famous sole, and this is the beginning of Converse's history.
In 1910, the production of shoes began to increase in volume. But it was not until 1915 that Marquis Mills launched its range of products for the sports world. At the time, shoes were not considered as a stylish accessory, so production was still shy. Indeed, at that time, canvas shoes only found their place in top-level sport because of their resistant sole and their lightness.
Over a century of influence
As early as 1920, basketball shoes - a sport where converse was the most appropriate because they were very effective on the floor - took the name "All-Star". Already produced since 1917, their success began when the brand hired basketball player Cha Canvas and rubber shoes (sneakers) "Chucks" redirects here. For other uses, see Chuck. A pair of Chuck Taylor All-Stars sneakers Chuck Taylor All-Stars or Converse All Stars (also referred to as "Converse", "Chuck Taylors", "Chucks", "Cons", "All Stars", and "Chucky Ts") are sneakers manufactured by American fashion brand Converse (a subsidiary of Nike, Inc. since 2003). Initially developed as a basketball shoe in the early 20th century, its design has remained largely unchanged since its introduction. The shoe consists of a stitched upper portion, and a toe cap and outsole usually made of rubber. Although Chuck Taylors are made of various materials such as leather or suede, the original and most widely known version is made from cotton canvas. The innovative detail
